    • About the Edition

Examining the experience of the Canada-Vietnam remittances corridor over the past several years, this title is a first step towards identifying the main features and pointing out some of the areas and issues that researchers and authorities should examine more closely. In contrast to the large size and advanced level of development of the U.S.-Mexico remittances corridor, examined in the first case study, the Canada-Vietnam corridor is small in absolute terms and still at a nascent stage of shifting from informal to formal systems. For purposes of discussion, The Canada-Vietnam Remittance Corridor breaks down the remittance process into three stages: the First Mile, when decisions are in the hands of the remittance sender; the Intermediary Stage, comprising the systems that facilitate the cross-border transfer of funds, and; the Last Mile, where the funds reach the hands of the remittance recipient. By analyzing the objectives, obstacles, incentives, and changes occurring at each of these stages in the Canada-Vietnam corridor, lessons are drawn for other remittance sending and receiving countries that seek to encourage formalization of the flows.

My conclusion is simply that the variety of services available mean that no one company is best for everyone. The requirement to sign up stems from international agreements to prevent money Canada-Vietnam remittance corridor book and terrorism financing. As mentioned in the first post of the series, for smaller amounts, money transfer services will provide service. That takes a lot of the effort and hassle out of managing cash in two countries, for example, UK pensioners who retire in the warmer, cheaper climes of southern Europe, or Canadians in the USA or Costa Rica. Currencies Traded The banks will handle, at a price, any pair of 'from' and 'to' currencies. And the banks, wellthey keep much more restricted hours - "the traders have gone home for the day so we cannot book a transaction". Some methods of uploading, such as BACS, take another business days to clear before the funds can move on. About half the FX dealers offer online transaction access, which means access whenever you want it - very convenient.

The requirement to sign up stems from international agreements to prevent money laundering and terrorism financing. In the previous post's example where I wrote about some live FX rates, it was only by being able to access them online that I could make the comparison.
